2015 Toyota RAV4
When Honda & Toyota launched their car-based Cute Utes back in the mid-90's, most people said "Aww, how cute! Give me an Explorer, with leather and four-wheel-drive". But now the tables have turned, and those little fuel-sipping trucklets have become all the rage.
Toyota's little Rav has sold quite well in the past, but its aging design has allowed fresh-faced competitors like the Ford Escape & Honda CR-V, to simply annihilate it on the sales floor. The 2015 Toyota RAV4 aims to change all that with a sleek new design language, an interior ripped from a Tokyo penthouse, and more emphasis on on-road performance.
Gone is the characteristic swing-out tailgate with the spare tire bulge, and the hot rod V6 model. The 2015 Toyota RAV4 uses an aerodynamic new body, with all sorts of perfect creases, and "vortex generators". This wind-cheating design not helps to improve fuel economy, but it looks really nice too. The 2015 Toyota RAV4 is a welcome departure from the uber-futuristic looks of the 2015 Ford Escape & 2015 Honda CR-V.
Even with the demise of the entertaining V6 RAV4, the 2015 Toyota RAV4 still manages to interject some fun. Thanks to microchips and wiring, you can put your little people-pod into Sport Mode by placing the gear selector into "S". After processing your request, the computer commands the electric steering, and the electronic gas pedal to "act quicker". The 6-speed transmission also gets a royal edict. Instead of obsessively hunting a higher gear, it's ordered to stay in gear longer, that way you can get the most out of your 176 horsepower 2.5L 4-pot.
If you opt for the 2015 Toyota RAV4 AWD, you'll get 2 Sport Modes to play with! The Dynamic Torque Control AWD system has 3 settings: Auto, Lock & Sport. Auto only summons the back axle when it's necessary. Lock sends 50% power to the back wheels until you reach 25 mph. Sport delivers instantaneous power to the back wheels when you're going through a curve. The system reads data from the stability program's steering angle sensors, and yaw sensors, to determine when to activate the back wheels and hustle you through that curve.
What the 2015 Toyota RAV4 lacks in Modernistic exterior styling, it more than makes up for on the interior. There's a creatively trimmed, and driver canted dash, with blue-illuminated dials and controls. Higher trim 2015 Toyota RAV4 XLE and 2015 Toyota RAV4 Limited models get fancy french stitching details throughout the cabin. But choose the wrong color, and it'll look like you have a giant elbow, french-stitched to your dash.
Besides all the other modern-tastic new tech, the 2015 Toyota RAV4 also gets a tomb-full of sound insulation, and an extra-thick acoustic windshield. There's also a reclining back seat, which you can fold to achieve a class-leading 73 cu-ft of space. With all that quiet-tuning, and room, you could almost tint the windows and have your own cave.
