2015 Buick Enclave
Holy Roadmaster Batman, look at that grill!
Not too long ago, Buick was just sitting around waiting to die. Its cars hadn't been relevant since Ronald Reagan was in the White House. And its sole bestseller, the Buick Lesabre, had outlived most of its customer base. Everybody expected the storied luxury brand to get the axe when GM went under the bankruptcy knife several years ago. But somehow, it survived.
Now firmly ensconced in the GM lineup, Buick has managed to recapture some of the upscale luster that it lost sometime during the Gerald Ford years. Part of this transformation is due to its luxurious, fuel sipping CUV called Enclave. Folks love snooty SUVs, and nobody does snooty better than Buick.
Buick sold an impressive 58k Enclaves in 2011, making it the bestselling 3-row luxury crossover. For 2015, this leather-lined behemoth gets a number of notable enhancements, all designed to keep it at the front of the pack.
2015 Buick Enclave - Changes
In the 1950's, Buick grills were audacious & blingtastic. America was just hitting its economic stride, and people were anxious to show off their good fortune. 60 years later, China is in the same economic position. And guess what? They like audacious & blingtastic too!
The Buick Verano is the first car sold in the U.S. to have been specifically designed for China. It's massively showy waterfall grill is quite popular over there, so Buick decided to make it part of their American design language. Thus, the 2015 Buick Enclave gets a similarly styled black chrome waterfall grill, flanked by massive xenon headlamps, which are trimmed with blue translucent rings (articulating headlights will also be available). LED daytime running lights and a new hood finish the frontal transformation. While the rear gets a less pronounced rear bumper with integrated chrome-trimmed exhaust tips, and new LED tail lights (which are said to respond faster than standard bulbs).
On the inside, the 2015 Buick Enclave gets a much-needed new interior. The old Enclave had a massive slab of dead tree across the dash, accented by cheap plastic trim. The new one moves most of the tree trunk to the door panels, and center console. Leaving the dual-texture soft touch dash with a much more elegant look. There's also plenty of Ice Blue ambient lighting, real chrome trim, accent stitching, capacitive touch controls on the center stack, along with a new LCD touchscreen, fitted with GM's new infotainment system.
The 2015 Buick Enclave also gets the world's first center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger (mounted in the right side of the drivers seat), protecting both in the event of a side impact.
Under the hood, the 2015 Buick Enclave gets the same 3.6 liter V6, but the 6-speed automatic has been redesigned to provide smoother cog changes. The suspension has also been recalibrated to provide a smoother ride, and more control in the twisties.
In a Nutshell
The 2015 Buick Enclave remains one of the better looking fullsize crossovers on the market today. And the new interior goes a long way to keeping this leather-lined behemoth at the front of the pack.
